Woensdagman

As Woensdagman Thomas Rutgers uses the software he writes to explore new live sampling techniques. By recording the instruments played and playing them back in new structures, his music consists of an ever-growing memory of recordings.
This “memory process” is revealed to the viewer using an installation of projected speakers. The screens act as individual musicians in an ensemble, with all of them playing their own part in the room to produce a symphony of different sound and image fragments from “what just happened live.”
The result is an interaction between now and a few seconds ago, electronic music and atmospheric pop.

Thomas Rutgers verkent als Woensdagman met zelfgeschreven software nieuwe live-sampling technieken. Live bespeelde instrumenten worden opgenomen en in nieuwe structuren afgespeeld, waardoor zijn muziek uit een steeds voller geheugen van opnames bestaat.
Op een installatie van beprojecteerde luidsprekers wordt dit “herinneringsproces” voor de toeschouwer zichtbaar gemaakt. De schermen zijn als verschillende spelers in een ensemble: ieder op hun eigen plek in de ruimte spelen ze hun partij, opgebouwd uit verschillende fragmenten beeld en geluid van “dat wat zojuist nog live gebeurde”.
Het resultaat is een spel tussen nu en net, tussen elektronische muziek en atmosferische pop.
